PROFINET Over APL Field Switch on the Market
Phoenix Contact launched their 24-port Ethernet APL Field Switch in June 2024 at ACHEMA in Frankfurt, and the product recently successfully passed the APL Physical Layer conformance test. The Layer-2 managed switch incorporates both PROFINET and PROFIBUS PA proxy capability allowing process automation engineers to use existing fieldbus technology until the APL-capable field device is available.
IO-Link Interface for Position Encoding System
Since its market launch in 1989, the WCS position encoding system has been continuously developed and optimized. Pepperl+Fuchs is now adding a variant with an IO-Link interface to its existing portfolio of absolute positioning systems. The new system variant with IO-Link has identical dimensions to the previous devices. This means that existing code rails, mechanics, and accessories such as outdoor housings and carriages can continue to be used without restriction.

The new inductive sensors for high-temperature applications from Pepperl+Fuchs are characterized by two important innovations: They offer a particularly large operating distances of up to 50 mm, and an IO-Link interface is integrated into the amplifier. This enables seamless communication between the field level and the controller, making it very easy to integrate the devices into Industry 4.0 applications. In addition, variable cable lengths allow for simplified installation.
