Innovate, Protect, Connect
Innovate, protect, connect: these are the 2025 keywords of Consorzio PI Italia. A national point of reference for the promotion and dissemination of PROFIBUS, PROFINET, IO-Link, and omlox technologies, Consorzio has recently acquired new technologies such as MTP, NOA, and SRCI. Today, more than 90 companies, including manufacturers, integrators and end users, represent the soul of Consorzio, which confirms itself as a catalyst of innovation, technical culture, and networking for the Italian industry.
This year, the Consorzio’s efforts will take the shape of three major events that address current and decisive issues for the future of factories:
- Cybersecurity of OT systems
- Evolution of IO-Link-based intelligent systems
- Introduction of MTP technology, which holds promise for the pharmaceutical sector
OT Cybersecurity: a Systemic Emergency for Industry
Over the course of 2025, Consorzio PI Italia will turn the spotlight on OT Cybersecurity, an essential issue today. The increasing adoption of IIoT architectures and connected systems has made industrial devices increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats. The first Consorzio event on the topic will be staged in Bologna on June 10, 2025. Technical talks and sample case stories will support system integrators, plant managers and IT/OT managers in facing this important challenge. The goal is to strengthen awareness and offer practical tools to protect production, people and the environment from increasingly sophisticated attacks.
IO-Link Day: Third Edition Confirms the Value of Advanced Sensor Technology
Planned for Oct 1, 2025, IO-Link Day returns, confirming the success of a formula that combines technical insights, successful case stories, and discussion with experts. In 2024, more than 250 participants attended the event: an achievement that witnessed the growing interest in a technology that enables standardized, bidirectional, and digital communication between sensors, actuators and control systems.
MTP: for Modular and Agile Manufacturing
The third major event, scheduled for September 2025, will be dedicated to Module Type Package (MTP), a technology that is still unfamiliar in Italy but already well established internationally. Based on open standards, MTP allows process modules (even from different suppliers) to be integrated quickly and interoperably, without the need for extensive reconfiguration of control systems. The pharmaceutical and chemical sectors are the main beneficiaries, with more flexible plants, faster setups, and re-adaptability to different production runs. The event will be an important opportunity to discover application cases, available tools, and operational benefits of modularization.
PI Italia: a Network Making a Difference
Besides events, Consorzio PI Italia continues its daily work of technical support, information dissemination and training. This includes certification courses given by its two competence centers, GFCC and CSMT, technical publications, and participation in major industry trade shows such as SPS Italia and Pharmintech. What makes Consorzio a truly strategic player is its ability to work as a system: in an industry increasingly exposed to technological, regulatory, and economic changes, PI Italia unites manufacturers and end users around a common standard by promoting a shared technical language capable of accelerating integration and improving the overall quality of industrial automation.
