Italy Welcomes IO-Link Competence Center

Consorzio PI Italia is pleased to announce that the Genoa Fieldbus Competence Centre (GFCC) has been officially approved by PI International as an IO-Link Competence Center (IOLCC).

This recognition marks a strategic milestone for the country’s industrial automation landscape: thanks to GFCC, Italy now benefits from an independent and certified Center of Technical Excellence, serving as a reference point for developers, manufacturers, system integrators, installers, and end-users who adopt or plan to adopt IO-Link technology.

GFCC is the fourth IO-Link Competence Center in Europe (two in Germany and one in the Czech Republic) and operates internationally in a multilingual environment: Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, English, and French.

A Center of Excellence Serving Industry

Already certified for years as a PROFIBUS and PROFINET Competence Center (PICC) and Training Center (PITC), GFCC further expands its portfolio of certified expertise, strengthening its independent activities in certified training, technical consulting, industrial communication network design, and advanced troubleshooting.

The Center’s distinctive value lies in the availability of highly specialized technicians with extensive experience also in PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems. GFCC experts operate directly at production sites in Italy and abroad, supporting customers in analyzing and resolving issues that may impact the quality and reliability of data transmitted over industrial networks.

An additional distinguishing feature is GFCC’s in-depth expertise in EMC, with particular attention to proper network grounding and the calculation and measurement of currents on cable shielding –critical aspects often underestimated but essential for communication stability.

A New Reference Point for the Italian Market

With GFCC’s certification as an IO-Link Competence Center, Italy officially joins the international network of centers of excellence dedicated to the standard.

PI Italia at ChemTech 2026

On March 19, Consorzio PI Italia will take center stage at CHEMTECH2026, organized by ICP Magazine with the patronage of AIDIC, the Italian Association of Chemical Engineering.

The transformation of the process industry now hinges on a key factor: integrating corporate strategy and production engineering in a flexible, scalable, and digital way. To explore this topic in depth, PI Italia will participate in the event with a talk delivered by Vice President Alberto Sibono: “MTP 2.0 in the Pharmaceutical Industry: A Model for Managing Corporate Strategy and Production Engineering” (March 19, 14:00 PM).

The talk will provide a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insight into the role of MTP 2.0 as an enabling model for more flexible, scalable, and integrated production.
