PROFINET Security – PI’s Strategy | Tuesday May 5, 2026

In industrial communication, cybersecurity has become an essential requirement due to increasing connectivity, regulatory frameworks, and the necessity of ensuring the secure and reliable operation of automation systems.

Date: Tuesday, May 5, 2026
Language: English
Time (identical content): Session 1 = 8–10 AM (CET) | Session 2 = 4–6 PM (CET
Location: Online
Host: PI
Price: No-cost

PROFINET addresses these challenges with a comprehensive, scalable security strategy that enables secure communication across different application scenarios.

The PROFINET security concept is based on a structured approach with three levels: Secure Cell, Secure Access, and Secure Realtime. This model allows users to implement security mechanisms tailored to their specific requirements while maintaining system performance and interoperability.

Additionally, the webinar will cover the latest enhancements introduced in PROFINET specification version 2.5. There will be a particular focus on the new SXP protocol, including an explanation of why it was developed and the advantages it offers, such as secure communication and device access on Layer 2 and Layer 3 —even without IP-based connectivity.

The webinar will also address relevant regulatory developments, including the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the NIS-2 directive, and explain how they affect device manufacturers.

All interested parties are cordially invited to join and learn more about PROFINET Security and its future developments.

PROFINET Specification V2.5 – Insights | Tuesday June 2, 2026

The PROFINET specification version 2.5 addresses new requirements regarding scalability, performance and integration in industrial communication.

Date: Tuesday, June 2, 2026
Language: English
Time (identical content): Session 1 = 9–11 AM (CET) | Session 2 = 4–6 PM (CET
Location: Online
Host: PI
Price: No-cost

PROFINET 2.5 introduces scalable security mechanisms and supports motion control applications based on standard off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware. It allows standard network components to be used in conjunction with virtualized environments and time-synchronized motion control applications.

The specification supports scalable networks with higher bandwidths, larger data volumes, increased port densities and more flexible topologies, covering a range from 10 Mbit to 10 Gbit. Full backward compatibility enables the seamless integration of existing RT and IRT devices into PROFINET topologies. The webinar will also cover GSDX, including signing, conformance classes and full integration into the established certification framework of the PNO.

All interested parties are invited to learn more about the PROFINET specification V2.5.
