PROFINET in Process Automation Live Demo

ACHEMA, the world’s largest chemical, pharma, food & beverage, and life sciences trade show, held on June 10 to 14 exceeded all expectations. The six Innovation Themes of the exposition – Process, Pharma, Green, Lab, Digital, and Hydrogen – were very well received.

ACHEMA saw the launch of the new Process Automation (PA) Live Demo Wall on the PI booth. Designed for the next three years, it will be used on Hannover Fair and SPS trade shows until ACHEMA in June 2027. With over 106,000 attendees from 141 countries over the 5-day event, the refreshed booth display attracted many interested in the process automation technology and demonstrated the leading role that PROFINET has taken in the process automation space.

The demo wall displays a comprehensive overview of the “PROFINET in Process” message and continues to add more member companies, products, and solutions. It has over 68 devices from 19 different companies. Highlighted were: increased bandwidth, easy device replacement, seamless redundancy, and legacy protocol integration.

Ethernet-APL (Advanced Physical Layer)

Both floors of Hall 11 were the scene of many new Ethernet-APL announcements and updates, with PROFINET being the furthest along in utilizing this technology.

MTP (Module Type Package)

A joint marketing activity of PI, together with the NAMUR end-user community, the modular package unit concept continues to see new partnerships and product developments in engineering tools, systems, and working demonstration units.

NOA (NAMUR Open Architecture)

The concept of getting additional data from existing process automation installations and providing it along a side-channel to the control room, and other interested departments within a process plant has always been one additional way to access information from the field. By supporting numerous use-cases, NOA promises to support plant efficiency improvement and reduced downtime when used for predictive maintenance. Numerous other insights and improved plant performance are expected in the coming years, so make sure you attend the next ACHEMA – the world’s largest process automation exposition – held every 3 years. The next ACHEMA will be held from June 14 to 18 in 2027 in Frankfurt, Germany.
