Activities of the Japanese PROFIBUS Organization
Japanese PROFIBUS Organization (JPO) joined IIFES2019, the largest automation fair in Japan, from Nov. 27 through 29, 2019 in Tokyo, Japan. About 50,000 people visited the fair over three days. At the fair, JPO promoted PROFIBUS, PROFINET, and IO-Link. However, not only JPO, but other network associations support IO-Link, so we had a PROFIBUS/PROFINET area and an IO-Link area separately in the booth.
The visitors could see the multi-vendor demo systems of PROFIBUS/PROFINET, MR, and the coupler demo between PROFINET and CC-Link IE. One of the major Japanese controller vendors, Yokogawa Electric, released a PROFINET controller in 2019. One of the demos demonstrated the PROFINET connection between a Yokogawa DCS (CENTUM) an IO-Link master, PROFIBUS PA devices, and a motor controller. The IO-Link area showcased the openness of IO-Link. In the demonstration, JPO members demonstrated over 60 IO-Link products on the wall.
JPO also held an IO-Link seminar in Tokyo and Kobe in December 2019 and will hold a PROFINET seminar in Tokyo and Nagoya in January.
