After a break of more than a year of presence fairs, PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) is now looking forward to a personal reunion with the community. SPS 2021 offers this opportunity, and PI’s joint booth will have some innovations to offer in Nuremberg (November 23-25, 2021, Hall 5-210). The concrete implementation of PI’s core theme, the implementation of industrial communication for Industrie 4.0 and digitalization, have continuously evolved.
As an extension of the content, this year PI will present omlox, a locating technology that has been newly added to the portfolio, for the first time. Together, the members will present an interoperable location technology based on ultrawideband and other mechanisms that can be orchestrated in both edge and cloud environments. Omlox makes an important contribution to flexible, transparent and resource-efficient production.
The system supplement “IO-Link Safety” (V1.1.3) has now been adapted to the technical status of the IO-Link basic platform and has been expanded to include the complete test specification V1.1 as well as the first integration in PROFINET/PROFIsafe. This means that FS master and FS device products from IO-Link Safety, as well as development aids and pre-certified stacks for them, are possible at the very latest technical level and are expected at the trade fair.
The Process Automation Live-Demo will provide an overview of the PROFINET products available on the market for process automation. Here, visitors will have the opportunity to interactively operate the PROFINET and PROFIBUS PA-based plant structure. Of particular interest is the recently released Ethernet-APL technology. But FDI will not be neglected either. Both technologies will be on display alongside the Process Automation live demo.
A representation of the great variety of different devices and manufacturers will be shown by the Factory Automation wall. Furthermore, some newly certified devices will again be on display. The topic of functional safety will be presented by means of a PROFIsafe live demo as well as an OPC UA Safety live demo.
The advantages of the PROFIdrive application profile in the respective application classes will be presented by an interoperability demo.
In addition, the already well-known Industrie 4.0 wall will not be missing at the PI joint booth. Trade show visitors can look forward to live demos and presentations on the topics of TSN, security, PROFINET & OPC UA, as well as a completely rebuilt TSN demo with a greater variety of products. It clearly shows that the proven technology manufacturers are implementing PROFINET over TSN in a concrete way, thus making the advantages of TSN available.

IO-Link Member Meeting 2021
We would like to cordially invite you to this year’s IO-Link Members Meeting on November 26, 2021 from 10:00 am to 03:00 pm at the Seminaris Hotel in Nuremberg.
In addition to the long-missed opportunity to exchange ideas in person and the future-oriented innovations of all IO-Link working groups, the election of the Steering Committee is also one of the main topics on the agenda for 2021. In addition, a small selection of IO-Link development support service providers will also introduce themselves during the breaks.
