The continuous development of an evolving concept is always essential. This is also the case with omlox – the open locating standard for precise real-time indoor locating systems.
The SmartFactoryOWL will contribute to this continuous development process in the future with a real-time locating system (RTLS) based on the standard omlox.
IOSB-INA, a leading research institution in Intelligent Technical Systems and core partner in the competence center for medium-sized businesses, has a joint facility: The SmartFactoryOWL. It represents a real lab for Industry 4.0 and offers companies and research institutes the possibility to co-create technologies for future factories.
The omlox core zone infrastructure by TRUMPF Tracking Technologies is part of this research spaces since the beginning of the year. In total there are 8 satellites mounted on the wall and tags spread all over the area. The data communication is done by Ethernet cabling. Within this zone it is possible to integrate more tags from different omlox suppliers due to the standardized air-interface which defines how satellites and tags communicate. This creates a flexible solution which can be adapted easily.
This real time locating system is based on UWB, but of course other technologies can easily be integrated by using the omlox hub middleware which allows interoperability from different technologies.
The installation in the SmartFactoryOWL contributes to the further development of the omlox localization standard. The IOSB-INA creates use-cases that optimally prepare the omlox standard for the demands of the users. With the help of this, the omlox standard can continue to develop in a user-friendly way.
