Upcoming training includes a PROFIsafe Certified Designer training on Feb 9-11, 2021 in Karlsruhe, Germany (English language); plus an online training series on PROFINET Technology, PROFIdrive, and PROFINET PA on Feb 23-25, 2021 (German language). Register today!
New products this month include: valve manifolds with PROFIsafe from Festo; variable speed drives with PROFINET from Mitsubishi Electric; and three new PROFIBUS and PROFINET diagnostics tools from Procentec.
Sometimes you get the feeling that it’s almost good etiquette for work to be delayed on large-scale projects. It doesn’t have to be this way, though, as shown by results from the 2-wire Ethernet solution for process automation: Ethernet APL (Advanced Physical Layer).
Ethernet is the de-facto communication standard in enterprises, but it does not meet process automation requirements without modification. Ethernet-APL will enable long cable lengths and explosion protection via intrinsic safety with communication and power over two wires.
New products this month include: Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) chips from Analog Devices and Texas Instruments; IO-Link chips from Maxim Integrated and STMicroelectronics; upgraded PROFIBUS and PROFINET cables from HELUKABEL; and forked sensors with IO-Link from Leuze.
Condition monitoring and asset management applications require support for potentially remote sensors that need robust communication over a long distance. New SPE physical layer standards completed in the IEEE combined with PROFINET offer new connectivity solutions for communicating asset health insights for condition monitoring applications.
Three Regional PI Associations (RPAs) announce news this month. PI China participated in the CIIF tradeshow in Shanghai in September; PI Brazil has hosted multiple webinars over the past few months; and PI Netherlands recently put on a successful PROFI education week.
